Who was Dadasaheb Phalke

 Dada Saheb Phalke, born on 30 April 1870 in a Marathi family, studied from Nashik.  Dada Saheb Phalke's complete name was  Dhundiraj Govind Phalke. He took up drama and photography training at the Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai.  After this he moved to Germany and learned to make films.  Returning to India, he gave his country a new dream by producing his first silent film Raja Harishchandra.  Today we know that dream by the name of Bollywood.

 The Government of India announced the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1969 in his name.  On 16 February 1944, this young age producer director of the country said goodbye to this world.

 The first Dadasaheb Phalke award was awarded to Devika Rani.  She was taken this award at the 17th National Film Awards ceremony.  Devika Rani is also known as the First Lady of Indian Cinema.


 The winner is awarded this award at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals.

 This entire process comes under the Central Government's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).
