Every year 8th September is celebrated as "International Literacy Day". UNESCO announced to celebrate 8 September as "International Literacy Day". The primary "International Literacy Day" was observed on 8 September 1966.

 It is celebrated to increase literacy all over the world.  Even today many people in the world are illiterate.  According to the Global Monitoring Report, 77.5 million adults in the world are illiterate.  1 out of every 5 male is illiterate.

 2/3 of the women are illiterate.  Many children all over the world are still not going to school.  Either they do not have school in their vicinity or parents are not sending children to school. Many children have  worst social condition  which compelled them to start earning money from a young age.  The goal of this day is to send every child to school.
 Literacy in African countries is very low.  The 10 least literate countries of the world come from Africa.  Burkina Faso, South Sudan, Chad, Niger, Guinea, Benin, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Senegal are the 10 lowest literacy countries in the world.

 Writers such as Margaret Atwood, Paulo Koehlhoe, Philippe Dellerm, Paul Auster, Philippe Claudel, Fatteau Diome have written numerous articles and books to increase literacy in the world.

 Many companies are making schools and colleges in poor countries with their profits.  The children are donating copy, books and necessary things for their studies.  Dani Sansthaya, Rotary Club, Blood Bank, National Institute of Literacy are extending their helping hands to support literacy.
 To live a respectable life, everyone needs to be educated.  

The theme of International Literacy Day 2020 is "Literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond,".

 AIM OF INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

 The goal of celebrating this day is to educate all people in this planet earth.  Its goal is to create awareness among every children, adults, women and old people. So, they should be aware about their rights and understand their duty.

 Knowing  their right and art of living, adults can teach their children, give good education and culture to their children.  Be literate and eradicate poverty, reduce child mortality.  End crime and corruption  and spread happiness in the whole world.

 HOW TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

 On this day, such institutions are awarded who were putting their effort  to create awareness and teach people in the country and the world.  Programs like writing, lectures, speeches, poems, games, essays, paintings, songs, round table discussions, seminars are organized in schools and colleges.

 Our principals and teachers deliver speeches on "International Literacy Day".  Posters are put up on "International Literacy Day".  The news channel is broadcast and press conferenced on this day by the news channel.  The programme is shown on TV and also the problem associated with it.
