What is ISRO 'POEM'

 ISRO 'POEM'

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully launched the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM) on June 30 with three Singapore satellites being placed in precise orbit.  With this PSLV-C53/DS-EO.  (PSLV C53/DSEO) The fourth stage of the mission's vehicle will not become space waste.

Generally, whenever an artificial satellite is launched, the last stage of its rocket becomes garbage, but the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has done the work of using this stage instead of letting it become garbage.  has done.  PSLV-C53/DS-EO, launched by it on June 30 itself.  In the (PSLV C53/DSEO) mission, he will make the fourth stage of the launch vehicle useful by using a technology called POEM.  In this, after the satellite is put into orbit by the stage, it will be used as a platform for scientific experiments.

What is this POEM?

The PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM) is a platform that will provide opportunities for scientists to conduct experiments in orbit.  For this, part of the final or fourth stage of ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle will be used, which is usually discarded after the launch role is over.

 PSLV's fourth stage

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle is a four-stage rocket, the first three stages of which fall into the ocean, but the final or fourth stage, also known as PS4, after the satellite reaches its orbit, remains only a space debris.  But when ISRO launched PSLV-C53 on Thursday, its fourth stage is being used as a stable platform for experiments.

Earth's orbit for the first time

Prior to this launch, ISRO had said in its statement that this would be the first time that the PS4 stage would orbit the Earth like a stationary platform.  ISRO Chairman S Somnath in his address to Mission Control after the launch said that after the original mission, the fourth phase will write poetry in orbit.

Stage brain system

PoM has six payloads or payloads, including two from Indian space startups Digantar and Dhruv Space.  According to ISRO, a Navigational Guidance and Control System in PoM is destined for attitude stabilization which was intended to control the configuration of any space vehicle.  AGC will act as the brain for this platform so that stability can be achieved with desirable accuracy.

What is Poem

In Poem, it will get its energy from solar panels that will be mounted on the PS4 tank.  It will also have a lithium-ion battery.  PoM will use four sun sensors, a magnetometer, gyros, etc. for navigation.  ISRO said that it has also taken with it a dedicated controlled thrusters which will use helium gaseous.  It also has a Telecommand feature.

Have done this experiment before

Earlier in the year 2019, ISRO also demonstrated the capability of PS4 as an orbital platform.  It had placed the Microsat R and Kalamsat V2 satellites in their orbit along with the PSLV C44 mission.  In that mission too, the fourth stage was kept active as an orbital platform for space experiments.

But this time the matter is different.  The fourth phase in that mission had lithium ions, but this time solar panels have been added.  In this mission, more importance has been given to the stability of the orbital platform and this time it will also revolve around the Earth.  This technology of ISRO will be helpful in reducing the increasing waste in space as well as in delivering satellites and other payloads in orbit with accuracy.
