National Digital Library of India

The National Digital Library of India has emerged as the first choice of students for studying at home during the Corona pandemic. It was prepared by the Ministry of Education of the Government of India after the first wave of Corona arrived in the country. It is being run by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur).
PP Chakraborty, Professor of IIT Kharagpur and Principal Investigator of National Digital Library of India (NDLI), told that about two lakh documents from this library are being used daily for studies. This number is continuously increasing. Along with this, registration is mandatory to use the platform of this library, so till now around 60 lakh children are registered here.
Whereas about 32 lakh students are active in this library. Material of 7.3 crore study related documents or books is available in it. Out of which 60-70 percent material is completely free. Although there is no charge for the use of any book or document related to this library, about 30 percent of the remaining material is available on subscription. In such a situation, around six crore books can be used by children at any time.
Books from primary to post graduation are available in this library which access at anytime. Along with this, there are books available here for students, teachers, researchers, librarians and other professionals. Apart from audio, video, documents and books, the content or material available here is in the form of thesis.
Pro. Chakraborty tells that in this library, syllabus and books of 17 state boards including CBSE Board, UP Board, Haryana Board, MP Board are available online. Registered students are getting all the material on one click. If students are not able to find any book in the market then it is available here. NDLI has also written to other states to provide their syllabus here so that the students can get the complete syllabus online for studying from the comfort of their homes.
Pro. Chakraborty says that it is very easy to register on this library. For this you will have to go to the website of National Digital Library of India https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in/. From where you can register by going to the login option. In this, students will have to give their complete information. Which will include information ranging from email ID to address, language, education, institution etc. After this, students can directly avail the benefits of this library by logging in.
